Wayward Cloud I try to travel every year and commit to doing street photography in different countries. These photos were taken in Taiwan. It's a fantastic country for taking street photographs. There's so much going on everywhere. I first got into street photography when I travelled to Hong Kong a few years ago. The photos were terrible but I enjoyed it. There's an energy and curiosity in East Asian countries that urges me to shoot, so I've been shooting street photography in Asia ever since. I feel I have a lot more in common with Asian people than Europeans or Americans. But because I am European, there's a distance based on appearance. That offers quite a unique relationship between myself as a photographer and the subject I am shooting. I see myself as introspectively very similar, they see me as extrospectively very different. That relationship is very curious. And I think that is implicit in the photographs. All my work is personal work. If you can't make it personal, you really shouldn't be shooting it. The same goes for commercial work. I think my street photography definitely has a dream-like, fantastical taste to it. |
