I
purposefully refuse to make money from my photography, it's for art's
sake only. The designer Hugh MacLeod mentions that having a separate
day job to fund your art leaves you open to be truly creative. As for advice... never work cheap. Either charge a proper price or do it for free. An artist friend argues with me that there are no rules, which although being true isn't always helpful. I have found giving yourself a very firm box to work in, and then pushing as hard as you can against its walls distills a lot of useful knowledge. I am slowly working towards a gallery show, dealers feel free to get in contact (he says casually). I love working with non-professional models, they bring their own gait, stance and expression to the portrait leading to a dimension that might not arise from direction alone.
