I make my living completely from taking pictures, and I count myself as incredibly lucky to be able to say that. One of the best pieces of advice I was given was from a commercial photographer I assisted, who told me that it was going to take 10 years and $100,000 to become a photographer. That sounds staggering, but it kind of makes sense to me now. I think it was an excellent piece of advice because it spotlights that this isn't necessarily an easy path. Some people are lucky enough to get there quickly, but my experience has been it has taken an incredible amount of perseverance to get to where I am, and I am reminded all the time of how much further I want to go.
Some of the magazines I've worked with recently are Purple, Jalouse, i-D, British Vogue, Teen Vogue, Lula and Acne Paper. As for clients, some of the recent ones are Phillip Lim, Jill Stuart, Urban Outfitters, Zac Posen and Sony BMG.
