Heather Coney Island 2006

Up until very recently, my personal work was completely reportage, "snapshot" style photography (I hate that term but it's the best descriptive I can come up with for how I work). About two years ago, I did a series of nudes and that was the first time I had deliberately staged anything for my personal work. This summer, I started a project related to memory where I'm staging past moments in my life that I didn't get to photograph but that I have these incredible visual memories of nonetheless. But I don't know if working that way could ever completely replace carrying a camera for me. I have found myself taking less photographs in my daily life recently, but I also have been liking the few I take much more, so maybe I'm just learning what I like more.

I am a huge photo geek, so I'm always interested in what other people are doing with photography. I see a lot of shows, look at a lot of books (and often buy them too, which is definitely an expensive habit!) I really just love photography, and I find the more I look at other peoples' work, the more inspired I am to make my own.
