Chadwick left college
his junior year
in order to take advantage of the internet boom, and subsequently
worked as a consultant in the ad industry. After three or four years,
he began work at a photo studio in Tampa, where he met his mentor –
a still-life photographer named Larry Wittek – and gained a solid
technical background. During those early years, Chadwick spent a lot
of time learning film techniques through a lot of 35mm and medium
format work. That previous exposure is what Chadwick attributes to his understanding of color today. “In the ad industry,” he says, “I had to look at the color palette of fashion. They’re instinctual now; a lot of my stuff has a distinct and destitute palette and smaller color tonality.” He continues, “I draw on my experience with film, and definitely the most important thing for me is to know I can get a certain film process.” |
