I'm a fine art photographer, and that generally means that I operate at a small profit. I earn a living by teaching, and I stay alive in my senses by making new work.

I don't have a business where I cater to clients, nor do I have any interest in anything like that. I came to photography strictly as an art form though I have, from a distance, great respect for the tenacity of most professional photographers who either bring us our world or keep us firmly grounded in the world we make for ourselves. But that isn't me.

I do not have an interest in documenting or in changing the world. My desire is to connect with others who, through some high-minded empathic curiosity, want to share a moment with the work because they are moved in some small way to make it their own.

When I don't think too much about what I'm doing, when I don't plan, my work seems more authentic at first. It can also be uninteresting. But after I've found something meaningful in a process, I can repeat it, and the repetition heightens and deepens the meaning of the work by fleshing out patterns and themes.
