I use photography to gain a better understanding of the world around me; my work is an expression of these interpretations and understandings.

Since my very first experiments in photography I have been fascinated by human behavior and its desire for self-escapism. Through my work I strive to capture and open up an unexplored world, a place of curious self-expression, but also a world of new relationships, new chances, new beginnings and most importantly new stories.

I photograph people in their environments because I am curious what lays behind their eyes, where they have been and where they hope to go. I endeavor to transform the darker, grittier factions of society into fantastical narratives.

My work oscillates between fantasy and reality and I try to present this visually in my photographs by contrasting areas of definition and clarity with blurred, burned out and over-exposed areas. I also use slow shutter speeds and double exposures to explore the nuances of movement and the modulation of time as it passes from past to present to future.
