My aim for this project was to further facilitate Zhang's quest for self-escapism, aspiring to create a world for him, in which he could become Mao. This has also been an especially rewarding process for me as an artist, as it has enabled me to, in a sense return in time with Zhang through the photographic processes I have employed. Shot on a collection of expired Chinese film and processed on archival fiber paper the desired effect of an imagined past has to an extent become a reality.

This project has very much been a continuation of previous projects, although it has been the first time I have dealt with the idea of psychological escape, previous to this my subjects have sought escape in a more structured sense.
