I had always loved the work of Sally Mann, particularly ‘Immediate Family’ and her use of the Wet Plate Collodion process. I decided that I would learn that process and use it to tell my story. As there were no workshops over here at that time, I took it upon myself to learn it at home. It took 2 years to source all of the materials and information I needed, but after that, I was shooting plates.
