sales@eugene-lin.com Thus far the line has attracted patricians – women in high-ranking positions 28 – 40 with the financial means to buy into the luxury brand. They have been film directors, barristers, art curators, women who shun logos and appreciate the finer details of the designer line. I find it incredibly insulting when someone slaps a couple of metal screws onto a few pieces of leather, calls it a jacket and demands a massive price that can only be matched by their ego as “designers”. My customers are not as insipid – they can tell quality and the measured consideration that goes into each one of my pieces. Eugene Lin is always about brilliantly cut, sophisticated clothes first and the women who appreciate them, everything else is just extra. I constantly get accused of being a minimalist, but ask any one of my interns or machinists or factories who have actually worked on each piece and they will beg to differ. The clothes are not ostentatious, and I have flatly rejected calls to make it ‘more bling’, even at the cost of losing out on editorials because I believe the clothes have to reflect my vision for the brand. At the end of the day, it is the customer, not the press, who decides which pieces are brilliant and which are not – the proof in this lies in the simple fact that customers never lie with their money. I do have a loyal support of other press who understand and love my work, and for that I am grateful, as I believe that only people who really grasp the essence of the my work can really communicate it effectively.
