The Beverly jacket is cut of black wool-cashmere and lined with silk.
Coming from a country that is perpetually summer, I really hated winter
when I first arrived in London and every winter makes me want to wrap
up and keep warm. At the same time I needed a statement piece in the
collection and realised that draped outerwear was actually very rare.
So rare that I decided I just had to make it after sketching it out.
The reaction to that has been so phenomenal – I have been receiving
e-mails from stylists and photographers who want to shoot it, and
numerous stockists and buyers who want one. The jacket is so hot that
even our brand new stockist in India, Evoluzione, ordered one! The
construction was incredibly tricky, as it had to be hand sewn in many
places due to the thickness and volume of the luxury fabric. The retail
price is approximately £1,500. The Belinda Coat-dress is cut of grey check wool and cotton jersey and lined with silk. This piqued the interest of SAKS 5th Avenue. Coat dresses were popular during the Victorian era and are rarely even seen today. I took the classic shape of the collar and 1950’s A-line skirt shape and paired it with ribbed cotton jersey as a trim to update it. The checked fabric really brings out the cut especially in the collar, which is one massive piece. The retail price is approximately £1,200. The Bathsheba Gown – silk viscose jersey. I name each garment in each collection with names beginning with the same letter of the alphabet, in this case ‘B’ for the second collection. Bathsheba was the Biblical woman so beautiful she seduced King David when he saw her taking a bath. I wanted an evening piece that was just that – sensuous but not showy, and worked the knot which was the recurring theme of the collection as an unexpected detail on the back. The entire back and front collar are actually cut as 2 halves that is pinched and secured through the knot, causing the fabric to gather and flow like an elegant waterfall from the small of the back. An instant hit with the press and buyers at London Fashion Week, the retail price is approximately £1,000. |
