Having seen plenty of pictures of Leslie Porterfield in made-to-measure leather race suits he knew she’d be a great model, but instead of motorcycle clothing, haute couture was what he had in mind…

“We chose not to use any motorcycle outfits, as Leslie Porterfield already has many pictures like this and I wanted to do this shoot with Haute Couture. I called Karl Lagerfeld’s agent and they were happy to send across some outfits. Also Marcel Ostertag and many other fashion designers were involved. In the end, we had a choice of about 10 items, of which Leslie chose four to model. At first, she was nervous, because she’s not a professional model and there were lots of people around, but once she saw how beautiful the clothes were, she relaxed and I was able to get the shots I wanted.”

Art Director Dirk Meycke was equally pleased with the results of the photoshoot, especially at how professional and hardworking Leslie Porterfield was in such a chilly location.

“It was cold in the wind tunnel, but she put up with that extremely well,” said Dirk, who along with the rest of the crew, kept their winter coats on throughout the photo-shoot! “Usually, with a fashion model they would make a real fuss in this kind of situation, but she was cool with it. It’s thanks to the strong marketing department of BMW Motorrad that we could gain access to the wind tunnel – they put all the energy into this project and made it happen. Even though I’m quite familiar with all the crazy locations around Munich and Berlin, I’d never come across the wind tunnel before, so when I first saw the pictures, I thought it was stunning!”
