Quite
simply, Leslie Porterfield is the fastest woman in the world on a
motorcycle. The 33-year-old American currently holds multiple land
speed records, and during last September’s speed trials at
Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, she achieved an amazing top speed of
246.6 mph (396.864 km/h) and set an average speed of 240 mph (386.2
km/h) through the timed mile after being slowed down due to
‘wheelspin’ on the salt.
The considerable publicity generated by Leslie and her obsession with speed brought her to the attention of Markus, who had seen some amazing pictures of the BMW Aerodynamic Test Centre and decided he wanted to make a fashion shoot with her there. For Markus, the opportunity to photograph Leslie modelling a selection of Haute Couture inside the world’s most advanced wind tunnel was the perfect synergy: “I’d been searching for the ideal location to photograph a beautiful woman and when I saw the images of the BMW wind tunnel, I made a request to make some pictures there. I also contacted Leslie to see if she would be interested in a project with me and when she looked at my website and saw the kind of things I do, she was very interested.” |
