Maybe, for a start, we should stop pedalling these ridiculous ideas that suggest both, that ‘everything must be good if it looks right’ and also that youth and beauty are the same thing. Maybe then we can start talking again about the ‘whole’ cycle of a life. And the different, and equally important, ‘paths and journeys’ that present themselves at life’s varying stages. Since the beginning of this century we have seemingly stopped dreaming of new ‘real’ ways of being – distracted either by fantasy, or merely re-treading the pre-millennium ‘cool’ culture of drugs and technology – hoping that the latter will sort out the future without us having to do anything about it. And if not, then that the former will anaesthetize us from whatever it is that results.
