I think there are two ways to write with light: to build the light or to find it (not “to look for”). I prefer to work on location more than in the studio. I like to make subtle changes in the ambient light to achieve the needs of my photograph, but I don't like to make big changes. I prefer to find, rather than to construct. I call this “reinforcement” light, a concept far different from the idea of “fill light”.

I say, work WITH the space, not AGAINST him. (The Space is he, not it, a person, masculine. The Scene is she, feminine, not neutral, not it).
