Ronnie Taylor/LA Models Ive been working closely with art director Louis Huynh who I've known for several years now. He was a model agent and has experience with representing photographers and artists, but wanted to pursue a more creative outlet as an art director. So we've started a working collaboration. This shoot was originally a "beauty/hair" portrait series for editorial. The basic premise is "NEW NATURALS", i.e. faux natural hair styles with an edge in the cut, and the beauty would be bare make up, but with emphasis on strong, almost over done kabuki eyebrows.. We expanded on the original concept and added a specific thread in terms of casting the models. We chose some pretty unique models, all who are just on the cusp of adulthood, in that nether stage of neither being a child nor an adult. Think in terms of the kids in Larry Clark's Tulsa photo documentary series, or Avedon's portraits of farmers from the Midwest. The models are from a couple agencies in L.A, mainly L.A. Models. Some of the models have shot for Prada, Italian Vogue etc. I always choose my subjects carefully as this is one of the most important things to take into consideration. |
