I
chose not to make a living at photography. I stopped showing in
galleries because the work I was making was very expensive and I would
be lucky to break even from a show.
I also did not like the pressure from something that was giving me such pleasure. I decided to use photography as my creative outlet and if some commercial success came from it then all the better. I had an agent for a short while and do syndicate my images through a syndication agency. My work is a hard sell and though clients like the idea of it, they almost always back down in the end.The commercial clients I have worked for are record companies and book publishers. I have had some interest from advertising agencies in the past.
I shoot mainly for myself but I also
like to
work with recording artists and writers, for anybody who is considering
my work I'd encourage them to take a chance and stop being so safe!
For the near future I'll probably
be doing more of the same type of work but I am very interested in
photo retouching so
perhaps I will add "photo retoucher" to my professional roster
