This story is from a road trip I made into West Texas. I had been living in Paris for years and I really missed the old days, my old travels through the South West. I was going to LA anyhow, so I figured I'd rent a car and take some time to make some personal work. I mentioned this to a friend who was art directing for Spoon Magazine at the time and she asked me if I would consider making a fashion story along the way. I contacted my friend and stylist Jason Leung from London and he was excited by the idea as well.

I started the trip alone, had a week to myself in Texas, then I picked Jason up in Lubbock at the airport, with all the clothes, and off we went. For a week we drove around, met people in such a wonderfully random way..... and everyone we met was excited to make fashion portraits with us. We met some of the most amazing people.... and had more laughs! As you see, I mixed reportage with portraiture, landscape with architecture, and black and white with color. This story is really me. I'm all about freedom, surprise, harmony, and love. I hope that comes through in this series. Even though there are designer clothes on most of the subjects..... Versace... Ralph Lauren... Sergio Rossi.... I wanted it to be invisible. Jason did an amazing job to make the fashion blend into the environment. If I didn't tell you that these people were sometimes wearing thousands of dollars of fashion I doubt anyone would know. I love that!
