I took a few
courses at the Saidye Bronfman Center in Montreal and started learning
about photography as an art as well as some basic printing techniques
and realized I wanted to go further with it and learn the technical
aspects. Later I did a degree at Dawson College where I learned the
technical side of photography, but of course then it was all film. I started getting commissioned work and needed a more cost effective approach so I went digital. In my third year and final semester at Dawson I was called in to see the head of department and within a few minutes I was expelled. They didn’t want me spending my time doing paid work when what I was supposed to be doing was wet lab/black and white projects that my Profs were saying were obsolete in the commercial field anyway. It was frustrating because not only was I a good student but the whole purpose for taking the course was to set myself up for a career, but they weren’t willing to see that. |
