Homage to J.M. Barrie Robert & Shana ParkeHarrison were the first to inspire me to put people in my art. Their book, "The Architect's Brother" just blew me away. I also love the work of Keith Carter. I guess I have an overall style and an overall aesthetic. But I'd rather let my work speak to each viewer individually. Perhaps I should note that I have a very strong background in two things that lead to where I am today: 1. I was very good in the darkroom, and would not be doing digital work if the results weren't superior to the results from traditional film/chemical methods. And I wouldn't be doing my photography at all if it weren't for the accessibilty of digital imaging. 2. I was also very good and at doing extremely detailed ebony pencil and pen and ink drawings. My work in PhotoShop is just as labored as my drawings used to be, with a very keen sense of getting the tones just right. I work with the rubber stamp and the dodging and burning tools just as if I was doing a drawing by hand. It's not uncommon for post processing on some of my photos to take 12-24 hours. |
