Mariano’s personal projects allow him to “photograph without expectations of any kind of results - to try new ways of doing things and to learn from my mistakes.” However when he is shooting for a client, his outlook is completely different. “By the time an advertising project gets to me many people have spent a lot of time thinking and designing the enterprise with a very specific aim in mind. As a photographer my contribution to the project is to understand my client’s purpose and to bring my enthusiasm and abilities so as to further that end. That, and bringing the project to completion on time and on budget is how success is measured in the commercial world.”
