I’m influenced by many things; many elements work together to spark ideas. Sometimes those ideas are clear, for instance after 9/11 I created the Cigar installation series with the 1940s Lucky Strike girl in mind. With all the world’s chaos, life goes on – what can you do but smoke a cigar? Other influences are not as clear, such as a space I see that needs to be filled. This space could be as small as a clock or as large as an entire gallery. Other ideas come from deep within my psyche, like the psychological relationship between food, weight and attractiveness. Sometimes I’m simply influenced by things I see that I like or don’t like. And, like many artists, I’m influenced by the great works of others. My plan for the future is to keep exploring the Universe I’m so privileged to inhabit. Do what you love most, your passion is the main thing that counts!
