Derek Caballero is a
self-taught photographer who gained the majority of his
knowledge working with motion picture cameras on
commercial and film sets. He was fortunate to spend time working with
the famous cinematographer, Freddy Francis and photographer Bruce
Weber. Derek purchased his own motion picture camera and learned
the
art of steady cam operating. This allowed him to expand his horizons by
setting up a small film company called Pirate Films with which he was
able
to produce and direct low budget projects. His fascination with
vision
and sound has also brought him photo shoots with The Rolling Stones,
Ani Difranco, Dido, Ben Harper, PJ Harvey, Slipknott Ice-T and
others. It has only been recently that Derek has realized his
fascination with frozen imagery. Currently, the Photoflex Light Company has stepped behind him with equipment to explore more of his signature gold background look. His work has won him numerous awards and recognition. He won the Lucie Awards in four divisions: Beauty 2nd place, Digital 2nd Place, Music 3rd place and Wedding 3rd place. He was the winner of the "Style & Beauty" division in the Amateur Contest Issue of American Photo Magazine. Derek has membership as a Playboy Affiliate Photographer, Advertising Photographers of America, and National Association of Photoshop Professionals. He has been published in American Photo Magazine, Nerve Magazine, Glue Magazine, Digital Media (AUS), GQ Germany EMag, and the book Erotique Digitale.
