Born in Porto, Portugal,
A. Brito is a freelance photographer in
fashion, beauty and nude photography. He does studio and outdoor
nudes equally well. You'll find his website at www.andrebrito.com
The nude is fundamental to the serious artist, it has long been accepted as the basis of understanding for the human subject. This is no less true for the photographer. To photograph the model without reference to current style, without adornment, with only light and the body to create a meaningful image, is a basic and necessary skill. Anybody can take a picture of a naked woman and have it be mildly interesting. There are a lot of these pictures out there, thousands upon thousands of them residing in vast internet photo archives, each one as forgettable as the next. It is naturally of interest to see an unclothed body, and there is the trap, any photograph of a nude "will do", and that's where most people stop. It takes an artist to see beyond simple nakedness, it takes passion to go beyond the formula, the easy image. It takes great effort to create art. This Brito does. Because of the powerful response we have to the nude it can easily overwhelm the image. To place a nude in the environment, without making it tiny, using available light, and not have the body either disappear or overwhelm the image is a definite skill. This also, Brito does. Can you do it? Here we use the outdoor nudes of A. Brito to provide a quiz to see if you know "the rules". Sharpen your pencils and turn the page. |
