So far, my work is entirely personal, and the series’ solo. I am typically the model, and if I feel the shoot requires costume, set design or make-up, I create them myself.

When they have not been self-portraits, my subjects have been good friends who are also artists and photographers. Unfortunately, most of them live quite far away, but it’s worth the wait to have subjects who can interact so intuitively with me. They know their bodies, they know photography, and they know me, so there is much that doesn’t need to be spoken.

Photography feels quite lyrical to me—whether I am shooting myself or others, if it is going well it will feel like a dance—with both the models and the environment. That silent communication facilitates its fluidity, grace. Finding that sort of connection with unknown models is intriguing to me, though, so I hope to explore that in the future.
