One way I learned my art is by reading and by earning an advanced degree in literature. One art easily lends itself to another.

By the same token, any mode of education that requires creative reasoning and critical thinking develops the skills necessary for making art.

My 9-year-old can teach me how to draw; a sophisticated education helps us think in new ways. I've never been able to see a star quite as well by looking directly at it.

Most of my inspiration comes from looking at art history and at contemporary 2D and 3D art, wherever it happens to be. Some photographers inspire me a great deal, especially if their work is totally unlike mine, and I tend to hang on to images more than to photographers and other artists.
