The Birdtail

This image really ties this project together in several ways... First, the Birdtail is the name of the rock in the background... which is where our family's ranch got its name, The Birtail Ranch. Secondly, in case you didn't know, I grew up on the back of a horse. So the horseshoes, which are all from our ranch horses, are obviously symbolic. Furthermore, the barbed wire was all used on the ranch years ago. My grandpa (who passed away several years ago) saved many rolls of the old wire for no apparent reason... other than to have me weld it into some crazy sculpture dress.

This picture takes place on the Birdtail road, which used to be the Mullen road. This was the only wagon trail to link the Midwest/East coast to the Northwest territory. Not far away was the Eagle Rock station (seen in other pictures) which was a major stop along the way. It was traveled by the first traders and settlers coming to this part of the US. And still... Notice the 'Jack fence posts." A prehistoric sort of recycling, these posts were orginally poles used to run Telegraph wires across the country. Taking on a third life.
