Sabine seems to have carved out her niche not by being wiling to diversify her photography, but by specializing. She admits it’s probably not hard to make a living at photography, but is “rather hard to make a living with that kind of photography one finds fulfilling.” Her hint, then: Be patient, and in the meantime to work on your own “unique and recognizable style,” she says. “This distinctive style has to be real and different from that which everybody does and must not be based on influences which are just trendy or hip at the moment.”

Find you own niche, she says, “No matter how small or unimportant this area of specialization seems to be.” If you’re patient enough, you’ll find your niche.

Because of her own niche, Sabine doesn’t feel she has to balance paid work with her own personal work. Some jobs allow more creative freedom, she explains, but they’re all in her style.

Some clients include: Nikon Europe, Procter & Gamble / Pringles, Kikkoman, Shoei, Goldwell, Iveco, Bayer HealthCare, O2, Masterfoods, “and many many others.”
