I wanted a very old school look to these images. The stuff out there now is just way too clean. It's very...digital.  It's too sterile. I wanted to get back to analog.

I was inspired by the works of Josef Astor and Guzman.  Guzman, interestingly enough, was probably the first photographic duo in fashion, much like Klinko & Indrani and Mert & Marcus are today. They were so cutting edge during the late 80's, early 90's that clients were hesitant to deal with them! I initially wanted to shoot with a 4x5, but with the time constraints it wouldn't have been possible. So I had to replicate that 4x5 selective focus in post production, along with the aged photo look. I don't like those do-it-all filters, so the finished image is actually a result of several filters and something like 20 layers. The resulting layered TIFF file was about 200 Mb. Half the shoot is actually on TMAX 100 film that I scanned. I also wanted the lighting to be very much old school, so I ditched the softboxes and went with grid spots.
