I am
beyond blessed to feel a part of an incredible web of female
photographers and artists met through the Flickr community. The quality
of their work challenges me to improve my own, and the respect that
they show my work gives me immeasureable encouragement and confidence.
Alison Scarpulla, Ellen Rogers, Rebecca Cairns, and Courtney Brooke
Hall play a profound role in my life in this and many other respects.
They are my mentors, before anyone else. There is very little that doesn’t inspire, really, and if one doesn’t feel this way then they aren’t looking. I am grateful, however, to be a multi-disciplinary artist, which allows me to choose the appropriate medium to express whatever it is that I need to. I’m sure that otherwise I might more often feel that my work is stagnant. The only times that I fear losing vitality in my work is when I feel some sort of self-imposed pressure to maintain a niche, or “consistency” in my portfolio, which is the sort of disingenuous mire that I try to avoid. |
