I’ve
always been interested in people, though initially I expressed it
through photojournalism. Over the years, I’ve found myself interested
in the differing avenues of conceptual documentary photography as a way
of communication and expression, and the slower process of working
with typology, portraiture, and lighting. Once my interests started to evolve and then my process, I became open to the idea that I wanted the experience of formal education. I no longer wanted to read books and take photography workshops in between my day job, all the while dreaming of an academic environment in which to study photography. I eventually gave into this and now I find myself a graduate student at Georgia State University, and this is where I have the space to think about things differently – to question ideas and their visual expression, how symbols are interpreted, how people react to different confrontations, how they do not. It’s a place to be constantly curious, freely and without restraint. And even still, it evolves. |
