Regarding
"City at night," at first I just wanted to exploit these deep
blacks and somewhat surreal nighttime skies I get by shooting black and
white at night in the city. Then I saw the potential of a story
about
a young woman discovering or creating and, in any case, asserting her
identity in a city. There are so many young women in New York
City,
who are here from elsewhere, and my daughter is of the same age and I
see this tension of place, childhood, and adulthood that I find
fascinating, scary and alluring. "On the lam" is a more specific and literal take on identity transformation, using a story of a women on the lam for some reason. And I wanted a particular color look to the story that, again, is rooted in movies. |
