Night Game What I do is actually a sort of materialization of visions that are difficult to express in words. It’s an expression of my view of the world using images with differing degrees of affinity to symbolism, and can often be decoded only with the help of a non-narrative – more emotional and less rational – response on the part of the viewer. The term “visualization of feelings” is actually a quite precise formulation of my creative methods. It’s a desire as well as a need to communicate certain things. Only the future will show whether this communication was contemporary or timeless or failed to mirror the present period, whether it managed to anticipate some events or just commented on them ex post. In a number of approaches I’m no longer as rigorous as I used to be. With age and perhaps with more understanding, I perceive everything with greater tolerance. The strict rejection of personification in my older pieces has given way to a new feeling. Faces have become part of my compositions. This surely contributes to a higher level of communicativeness, but I don’t regard it as a concession. My perception of the world has simply moved in this direction. Or the world has moved in the direction of my ideas. I keep confirming my primary vision more and more – the perception of the world as one huge theatre. |
