The reactions to my work were pretty inconsistent during the seventies and eighties. I wasn’t producing what was generally expected from a photographer at that time and my individualistic approach was mostly hard to accept. In fact, it was neither classic pure photography, nor what was considered artistic experimentation at the time. From today’s point of view the things were closest to some sort of conceptual vision, which more or less ignored reality and used it merely as a template or a primary building stone. This was then transformed – often beyond recognition – into a final image that corresponded primarily with my intuitive view of the world. These things were generally difficult to communicate and evoked discomfort more often than understanding. |
