Taylor Both projects, 'A Thousand Souls' and 'Bypassing the Rational' began in the post-Impressionist room at the National Gallery in London. The pieces were so powerful with just a few splotches of color, with hardly any detail. Our imaginations, our minds put together the rest. I wanted to replicate the same feeling with photography, and so I began to experiment. Deeply tied into the aesthetic choices are ideas of identity, memory, dreams, nightmares, fear and beauty. I believe there are many facets to each personality and we all have the capacity to be kind and calm as well as cruel and horrible. There is a dark side to everything. With each subject, we explore these ideas and look for ways to convey the fear or enchantment a face or body movement can inspire. |
