I had no interest in photography in college, the fine art school didn’t have a department of photography. In our eyes it was like fixing a watch or repairing an automobile, not art. In the 8 years after my graduation from fine art school, I didn't become an painter but a commercial video director. I became one of the best directors in China until 2 years ago. But, doing something so commercial had deeply depressed my desire to create. I had almost no works to be proud of in those 8 years. In 2004 I bought a digital camera for my work, and started to take pictures. Gradually I found the self-confidence to give up my profession as a director. |
