Then came
the big question of “Reality”! I love man-made environments
since that is what I mostly saw growing up. For me they have a lot of
reality that comes in the shape of the energy of their materials, their
builders and the people who lived and live there. The sky
above them is a mixture of different kinds of electrical lights. The
light
in each spot has a different color and it has a different feel in every
space; the sky looks different above every country. Did you ever look
up at the sky when you were traveling and know instantly that you were
not home? The question is, how do you capture it and then how do you
reproduce it. Photoshop has
so many options and, for purists, there is a world of difference
between different films. So many pictures happen spontaneously and beautifully in front of our eyes every day, but to re-create them is a lot of work, equipment, organization and people. I like to work with environments that are already in place because they have a lot to give if you are prepared to take. “A picture already happens inside your head before you even press the button” a friend said. But it also happens in the environment and in the head of your subject, even, I think, if your subject is inanimate. You have to reconcile. A picture is a communication of the moment. |
