Stone House

This house was built around 1900 by an Englishman as a later part of the Homestead act: a law that required three steps: file an application, improve the land and file for deed of title. A few yards from the house he dug a coal mine and worked it for many years. And regarding his wife, Grandma said, "When she decided to leave she said 'what's mine is mine, and what's yours is half mine!'"

Basically all that was left were the stones you see in the picture, and an amazing old pot-bellied stove that, no matter how many times the place caught on fire, would not burn. So I decided to turn it into a dress... lovely don't you think? And fireproof.

The frame we used for this photo is a reclaimed window frame from the buildings in the "Shingles" photo.
