I
started shooting sports and insignificant finds in nature. Then I
discovered how I could manipulate light and scenes and somehow ended up
shooting fashion. It just seemed the most appropriate for me, visually.
I grew up in a small town of Upstate New York so I guess it's a bit
unconventional in that sense. Nobody from my town ever became a fashion
photographer. I've always been a fan of Irving Penn. Of course, he's a classic. David LaChaplle as well. Maybe I should not say this, but I used to really like Markus Klinko and Indrani until they came out with their awful television show "Double Xposure". I lost a lot of respect for them when I saw how they actually work... I could go on, but I'll leave it at that. Clementine and I are more interested in the work than the "celebrity status". I seem to find the history of photography a bit boring, I'm more interested in the history of art. I have had more influences from great painters, sculptors and thinkers of the 20th century than photographers. Clementine and I are big fans of Andy Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, and Pablo Picasso just to name a few. |
