Lost Eden You can find this style in two photographers who influenced me greatly, Philip-Lorca diCorcia and Jeff Wall especially. In Wall's work every element is under control, nothing is left to chance to guide the viewer. The balance of these "clues" is essential to this type of photography. Too much and the viewer understands the purpose too fast and may be bored. But if there are too few clues, the viewer feels frustrated that the work is inaccessible. It is always imperative to ask what audience is targeted. In parallel to my graduation work I started working as assistant to the fashion photographer Arnaud de Harven in Brussels. During those two years I really discovered fashion photography and the creative freedom it allows, especially when it is created for magazines. But being influenced a lot by movies, I tend to inject a cinematic visual culture into my images, and from this point of view I can quote the work of Gregory Crewdson as another influence. |
