the wake of major ideological destabilizations. The former becomes a
battleground, a crucial component in assessing the limits of the body,
while the latter is analyzed both in the light of the failure of
religion to unite the fragmented, »global village«, as well as the
on-going concern of post-byzantine cultures with the primacy of
