Personal
projects are so important to me as I can really explore new territories
and ideas that I may not be able to do on a commission. I love working
with people and get my ideas and inspiration from the people I meet,
art, fashion, spaces - things that exist around me. My studio is in a warehouse and is full of amazing spaces - old mannequins, theatre props, an old lift, interesting stairwells and the light in there is fantastic. In terms of inspiring photographers out there, I belong to a professional group called Behance and find so much work that I am inspired by across the board from fashion, to international magazines, designers, artists and illustrators - it's good to keep on top of what's happening as I'm so aware of the ever-changing nature of the industry. One photographer in particular, Hedi Slimane, is someone whose work processes and concepts are very interesting and inspiring to me. I love how he incorporates film, movement and voice-overs with his fashion and portrait stories, bringing more literal narrative to shoots. His technical ability is also amazing and he has different image diaries to show what he's up to on a shoot-to-shoot basis. |
