In my personal work I really like the dialectic. I tend to focus on the extreme contrast between Ura (backside) and Omote (front side); I like to explore the difference in space between private emotions and public perceptions.

In a recent solo exhibition held at HPGRP Gallery in the Meat Packing District, NYC. I tried to show one man’s need and craving for intimacy. The show was called “More Than A Woman” and it was the shot in the home of the worlds largest collector of sex dolls (life sized anatomically correct dolls costing more than $9,000 each) He has over 70 sex dolls, is the only living occupant of a 3 bedroom apartment and claims to be married and even wears a wedding ring. “My ladies” as he says “are always there for me, they never talk back, they are completely loyal and if I get bored, I can just change the head.”

In that particular project, I didn’t want to assert my personal judgments of any kind, but rather frame questions. The images are shocking and intriguing and evoke complex emotions even in me. I never thought a moment so pure, full of intimacy and tenderness, could be so disturbing. It is that duality that drew me to that project. There is a book of the photos with the same title “More Than A Woman” available online.
