stylist’s own. Perhaps, though, the costume designers of the classic Sci-fi movies from the 60s and 70s were more accurate than their fashion counterparts. Films like Logan’s Run and the TV series, Star Trek, offered a minimal, body conscious uniform that could be worn by either gender. There was little decoration and little or no deviation from an overall look. Technology was imbedded either in the surface fabric or in the wearer’s skin – almost as if the clothing, and indeed the body surface itself, was of no consequence other than to be a ‘carrier’ of information, power and function. These ‘visions’ probably seemed ridiculous at the time, but as with many other science-fiction imaginings, they are now being realised into existence. |
