The Final Sleep of Grandma I make the dreams that I have, waking or sleeping. Hiking around I see these things and I put them into photography which is the way I best express myself. I work with people almost every time I have to bring one of these dreams to life. I just built a 15 foot alien for a photoshoot with my brother, Nico Zalhtan. As all photographers know, portrait photographers that is, you are only half the creator. The model is the other half. I am inspired by the great lake of inspiration that we all have in us. I love to steal from great paintings or photographs. If they touch me I want to feel how it feels to make something that powerful. In the end it turns into something of one's own. Joel-Peter Witkin, Diane Arbus, ectblahblah, that's who they compare me to so I'll take it. I think change is good, you must let yourself change. I like dark shit, I like funny shit. Most of all I love to see people inspired, that is the true meaning of art to me, inspiration. Does it move you, make you want to go home and make it? That's what I would pay money for in a museum. |
