I completed this shoot during my last weeks of university. All the models were fellow studios, the hair and makeup was done by other students, and the clothing was the senior collection of a student designer, Shunyi.

This series of photographs was important to me for several reasons. First, it represented the work that I would have in hand as I embarked out into the ‘real world’. Second, I am deeply inspired by the work of Paolo Reversi, and I felt that some of the images in the series had that soft and quiet feeling that his images often evoke.
Lastly, the story of the designer really touched me. I was in the studio with the designer when she was interviewed on video by the local newspaper. Shunyi left Singapore to study and have better opportunities in America. She never saw her parents during her schooling, and in her culture family was incredibly important, but they were coming to visit her to see the senior fashion show. While speaking of her sacrifices and their inspiration to her, she broke down in tears, nearly sobbing. It was touching how much someone would sacrifice for their work and their vision.

This collection was inspired by nature and influenced by an 18th century poem called “Eve”.
