Tamas Again in Japan, I had the chance to carry out Tokyo Hotel Story, a documentary on the Japanese “love hotels”. By double exposure, sepia bends; by cutting, illuminating and modifying the pictures I was able to represent the fantasy world of thematic hotels in Tokyo. Entre Quatre Murs was a series of three-dimensional portraits, printing various elements of an image on separate layers of orthochromatic film. Then Street Kiss was my next work, a visual essay on the women who worked in The Nicacio, a brothel on a forbidding dilapidated alleyway in downtown Rio De Janeiro. I used colour prints that were later manipulated in the dark room and hand coloured afterwards. During a residency exchange offered by the Christoph Merian Foundation I could create Frozen in time, a narrative series of photographs in Switzerland. I am currently working on two new projects about Tokyo and China that will be gathered in a retrospective book scheduled to be published next year by Canadian Publishing House Alto (www.editionsalto.com). |
