Each commission has an individual approach and the format we shoot will depend on the end result. This could mean 35mm (Nikon) for speed and candid, or for large format the Mamiya 67. Originally I shot on film, mostly Kodak and again, depending on the end desired result, would be negative or transparency. In the age of digital I was one of the first to invest in a digital back for my RZ, clients at first were really worried about the new technology but soon loved the results. The most demanding of this digital set up was on a glacier in Iceland, with plenty of pre-planning all worked well! Teamwork is always crucial as often you are working with clients and art directors from advertising agencies. You all have to work together to achieve a creative end result which pleases the client. I have always loved Avedons work and David LaChapelle. My advice to young photographers would be to learn the technical side and rules first, then break them. |
