I’ve never attended a formal photography class, but I’ve been studying the subject for most of my life. In addition to experimenting with cameras and reading everything from Shutterbug to Sontag, I’ve learned a lot by assisting established photographers.

During the 80s, I worked as an assistant at a commercial photo studio, where I was introduced to light meters, sync cords, and medium-format cameras. Much of the on-the-job training I received back then is still relevant today. Although I haven’t had to load many Hasselblad backs lately, studio lighting equipment is still pretty much the same.
