I grew up in the era of "True" magazine (the one that ran from 1937 to 1974) and "True Confessions". The gritty police mags with their lurid covers featuring illustrations of scantily clad women being menaced by hulking brutes were on the magazine shelves and I didn't pay much more attention to them, than I do to Cosmo today.
